Party & Bullshit

Now in its third year, FOMO Festival has expanded into one of the most essential events on the Australian festival calendar.

2018 marks their biggest achievement yet, with their sprawling lineup hitting Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and the final stop at Sydney last Saturday. We made our way to the event from Parramatta station (via Honey Persian restaurant for a cheeky pre-gig shish kebab) in the early afternoon, with thousands already filling Parramatta Park for the one-stage, clash-free affair.

Having won the world over with her debut album Ctrl in 2017, TDE leading lady SZA had the crowd mesmerised with her stellar performance, complete with a live band who elevated favoured cuts from ‘Supermodel’ to ‘The Weekend.’

Soon after, Post Malone took the stage for arguably the most anticipated set of the day. While he toured Australia as recently as March 2017, the overwhelming success of ‘Rockstar’ has elevated Post Malone into the upper echelon of hip-hop powerhouses. That single earned a huge sing-a-long at FOMO, accompanied by his breakthrough hit ‘White Iverson,’ ‘Candy Paint,’ ‘I Fall Apart’ and a motivational pep talk before his finale, ‘Congratulations.’

After some smooth, sundown selections from Kaytranada, FOMO looked to end with a bang and two high-adrenaline sets. The ever-elusive ZHU came and conquered with his brand of pounding, nocturnal house and electronica, before festival favourite RL Grime came in to close.

It’s only been six months since RL Grime toured Australia last (at Splendour in the Grass and his own mammoth headline show at Hordern Pavilion), but the vigorous crowd is still surging forward like its their first time witnessing the bass hero in action. Delivering Southern rap bangers mixed with doomsday synths, it’s a perfect concoction to get the dancefloor rumbling.

See the action from Parramatta Park here, and at this rate, we can’t wait to see what surprises that FOMO pulls out for the 2019 edition:
