Jillionaire
A day with Trinidad's finest.

When we caught Major Lazer back in January, it was one of the most energetic live shows we’d ever witnessed. A clash of undeniable Caribbean swing and modern dance music, Major Lazer have managed to translate their catalogue into a vibrant, celebratory experience.

That’s why we were so excited for Jillionaire from Major Lazer to return to Australia – this time for a solo tour. He’s been dominating the club circuit globally with his rambunctious, party-starting sets, and we’re lucky to have spent a day with the humble legend as we showed him what Sydney has to offer. See how it went down:

We started our day at Riley St Garage, a restaurant with plenty of rustic appeal and a killer menu to boot. A few shots of whisky in the early afternoon? Why the hell not. We all toast to a successful Australian tour, and discuss pressing issues such as Kim Kardashian and the current stock at Foot Locker.

Time to jet!

Cool as a cucumber. With our shades on and a little cash to spend, we’re fucking going shopping. Oh yeah!

This is the exact paparazzi celebrity shot that always catches Kim & Kanye leaving the hotel. YSL hand bag, Air Max 87s and Zanerobe Shorts – check, check, check.

Jillionaire takes a healthy interest in our local fashion scene, so we decide to head up to Halfsleeve – Surry Hills’ finest streetwear boutique for the past five years. With their fierce localism and focus on emerging brands, it’s the only place that we want Jillionaire to see if he’s looking for the real Sydney experience.

Jillionaire shares a bit of banter with Halfsleeve owner Teik Chew, before engaging in a little retail therapy and purchasing a crewneck by the good people at Sydney Romantics. Two very strong hairdos in this picture, I look on with bitter jealousy as I’m pretty sure that I’m balding. My heart breaks just a little.

Now it’s time for the tourist activities. Say whatever you will about Bondi Beach: It might be too busy, too expensive and filled with wankers, but its beauty is undeniable. When you head here on a sunny day, all you can do is stand on a ledge, let the breeze blow through your luscious locks and take in the million dollar view. After that, take a selfie.

The contrast between Jillionaire’s hair and the ocean is so great in this photo. This could literally be a cover for the next Baywatch DVD. I would buy seven copies. Also, no – I’m never going to get over Jillionaire’s hair.

Windswept at sundown.

Beachside palm trees – Bondi Beach on that Los Angeles vibe.

Spring time is Gelato Messina time. This photograph is so cute. I’m melting, and so is the gelato. This is literally the personification of the heart eyes emoji.

Life imitating art. Jillionaire engages in a pose-off with this weird statue. We take full advantage of their rotating menu of delicious treats, while the dog-human hybrid guards the mushroom cake ever so patiently.

Jillionaire’s worked up a little appetite, and so it’s only right that we head to Sydney’s newest and most hyped haunt: ACME. Located at Rushcutters Bay, it’s a new restaurant from local chef Mitch Orr. After being crowned Australia’s ‘Young Chef of the Year’ back in 2010, Orr worked in kitchens all over the globe before channeling his energy into this bouncing baby. Plus, he’s a fan of The Simpsons and Waka Flocka Flame, so we’re on the same page about the important things in life. Jillionaire & Orr share a few laughs over the tasty meal.

DAT HANDMADE PASTA THO. We recommend you drag your hungry asses over to ACME, ASAP.

Cheers!

This is the pensive and artistic shot of Jillionaire that we would like him to use when he begins writing his memoirs. Presumably, said memoirs will be filled with lots of cocktails, loud dance music and girls twerking onstage to ‘Pon De Floor’.

JILL_24__10_ELTOPO

We kick off to El Topo, where Jillionaire will be performing for the night. Sydney has been thirsting for another mid-week party, and El Topo has been delivering consistently for the past few months. These kids don’t care that it’s Wednesday – punters are in full #YOLO mode as the dancefloor gets heated. Drinks fly freely with no regard for the working week or wallets, and the stage is set for Jillionaire.

Selfie time with Jillionaire and local bro Nacho Pop. The Internet broke and the world stopped turning at this exact moment. Cool story alert: One time I engaged in a dance-off with Nacho Pop while Rick Ross’ ‘BMF’ played in the club. I’m pretty sure that I lost.

This is the face of a man in deep concentration. Jillionaire curating the art of getting the club as turnt up as humanly possible.

JILL_24__11_ELTOPO

If you can’t tell, he’s succeeding.

The vibes in this photo are immensely overwhelming. No one club should have all that power. Can we just take a minute to sit back and reflect on how strong everyone’s posing game is? Jillionaire takes the decks with some Sydney DJ royalty: Kato (Wordlife & most huggable producer in the dance scene), Levins (Halfway Crooks & Internet sensation) & Beni (all round cool bro) offer healthy support on the night.

JILL_24__13_ELTOPO

That moment in the club when there’s the same amount of people onstage as there is on the dancefloor. Whatever, we’re vibing.

Post-show, mid-road pose with Pumas and P.A.M. How we do.

Caption Jillionaire, commanding the boat just as well as takes control of the DJ decks. Extra points for donning out ‘Party & Bullshit’ crewneck as well! As he sails throughout the globe on more debauchery-filled adventures, we wish Jillionaire the best. Bon Voyage, brave soldier.
