Classic Dave…

It’s no secret Dave Chapelle likes to party. Big or small, Daves always ready to turn up. And the fact that there’s a global pandemic on isn’t gonna stop Dave from engaging in festivities, or from hosting them either, as the comedic legend held a socially-distanced “block party” over the weekend for the U.S. Independence Day.

The shindig had over 400 people in attendance, all of whom being teased for COVID-19 before gaining entry. Once inside the party, people had to keep masks on and stay six-feet part from one another.

You’d think that such a party might be a tad awkward, a bit of a downer when compared to parties of the pre-COVID era, but this one was anything but. Featuring music legends Common, Talib Kweli and Erykah Badu in attendance, as well as comedians Michelle Wolf, Michael Che, Tiffany Haddish & Chapelle himself on comedic duties, the party seemed to be properly popping off.

The party also featured Mad Men legend Jon Hamm singing Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ while Chappelle sung Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ (not for the first time either. Also, did I mention Erykah Badu covered Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’? Sounds pretty rowdy tbh.

The party was reportedly filmed, whether it was for a special release or just for Chapelle’s personal viewing pleasure is unclear. But there’s plenty of footage of the bash out there. Check it below.
