Maybe it’s time to let the old ways die?

Can you imagine Jackson Maine belting this one out?

Father John Misty AKA Josh Tillerman could easily have been a character in A Star Is Born (obviously not lead as Bradley Cooper is perf). Maybe a burnt out roadie? Or a musical rival? Well anyway, it turns out that he nearly was involved as a songwriter, but his song was sadly rejected.

But fear not! On Friday night at the Armory in Minneapolis, he debuted the country-flavoured ballad as part of his encore. After a shaky start in which he acknowledges “I’m just trying to remember my A Star Is Born song,” he brings the band in for a tidy rendition of the tune. Check it out at the one hour and twenty minute mark here:

He’s clearly not bitter about the rejection, conceding that “there’s really no place in that movie for that song. Unless he was bombing at Coachella or something. The sequel? Now we’re talking.”
