Tuesday? More like TUNESday.

Whilst it does feel at times like the coronavirus has brought the world to a standstill, we know that the creative world has had no time to rest. Musicians are busying themselves with live streams and releases to keep us entertained as we find ourselves with more free time than we’ve ever experienced. Here are some of our favourite releases that may have flown under the radar over the past couple of weeks:

Amber Rose – ‘I’m Working On It’

We’re getting more obsessed with Amber Rose with each new thing she puts out. Honing Julia Jacklin and Fleetwood Mac, the Sydney singer-songwriter delivers an honest and introspective tune that is overflowing with energy. The track is the third from a forthcoming EP that is just around the corner. Definitely an artist we can’t wait to catch when this all blows over!

The Lazy Eyes – ‘Tangerine’

These lads are arguably the most hyped psych band in the country right now, with good reason. Following on from their glam-flavoured debut ‘Cheesy Love Song’ the quartet has returned with a King Gizz-esque new tune that morphs into a wailing 70s jam, complete with shredding guitars, spacey vocals and colourful lyrics. If you’re looking to blow off some steam during iso, this is the tune for you. Dig it.

Cable Ties – ‘Anger Is Not Enough’

Melbourne’s Cable Ties have just dropped a new record that has pretty much soundtracked our whole iso. Raw, unrelenting and gritty the, Far Enough delivers everything we loved about this notoriously DIY trio in forty-five red hot minutes. Listening to seven-minute tracks like ‘Anger’s Not Enough’ and ‘Lani’ feel like you’re strapping yourself onto the side of the Cable Ties Rocket and getting blasted into pure chaos – it’s bloody gold. Check it:

Johnny Hunter – ‘Try As You May’

Capturing the noirish post-punk flavours of Joy Division and Bauhaus, Johnny Hunter have returned with their most moody and captivating track yet. With guitars largely making way for ethereal synths, the tune is something of a departure for the group as singer Nick Hutt’s vocals encapsulate the dire lyrical sentiment perfectly. The best part is, it also comes with news that their debut EP has a name: Early Trauma, though we’re still hanging on a release date. Stay tuned.

Jesse Madigan – ‘Spring’

If there’s a song that sounds like season changing, it’s this wonderful folky number from Jesse Madigan. ‘Spring’ is the third single from his forthcoming debut LP Nothing Better Than A Journey To You which is due out this Friday and sees Madigan’s softly-spoken vocals once again lure us into a concisely constructed sonic world. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to drop what you’re doing, drive to an empty field and run around in nature, which is technically exercise, so you probs can if you really want to.
