It’s that time of the week again.

Big plans for the weekend? Locking down? Enjoying the sunshine? Whatever your situation is, there’s one thing that we know will put a smile on you dial… New music. But not just any new music – these are tracks that have dropped in the last day or so, so chances are you haven’t heard them yet. In fact, we guarantee that there’s something brand new in this mixed bag of tracks or your money back… Check out the list below, presented by Jim Beam:

Human Noise – ‘How Is It You Do That’

Formerly operating under the moniker of Boydos, Sydney indie-rocker Eddie Boyd AKA Human Noise returns with the first single from his forthcoming sophomore record, and it’s quite the doozy. An uptempo melodic spray, with jangly guitars and an electric energy, ‘How Is It You Do That?’ has us salivating at the thought of ten more tracks from one of Australia’s best kept secrets. Dig in:

Kevin Morby – ‘Wander’

There is life before you heard Kevin Morby and then there is life after you heard Kevin Morby. I still remember when I first heard the Kansas-raised singer-songwriter’s track ‘Harlem River’ and, perhaps, this will be your introduction to him right here… ‘Wander’ is a delightfully unstructured tune that centres round one chord progression as Morby spits ethereal vocals with his Southern(ish) drawl.

cookii – ‘little’

Sydney pop artist cookii continues her world domination with another slice of electro joy that is so sweet it will rot your teeth. Over the past six or so months, she’s racked up over 130K Spotify streams, with fans lapping up her unapologetically polished tunes. And we agree – there’s something about cookii that we can’t get enough of. Take a bite right here:

Thomas Headon – ‘Cut And Bleach My Hair’

Born in London, but raised in Melbourne, slacker-pop artist Thomas Headon has just dropped his debut EP The Goodbye EP today which further reinforces his laidback energy. ‘Cut And Bleach My Hair’ melds a heavily affected beat, twangy guitars and some dreamy vocals in a way that will have you floating off into the weekend. Not sure if it’s intended, but the drumbeat and vocal styling of the verses is actually reminiscent of early Gorillaz, which is not a comparison we make lightly. Big things coming from Thomas Headon, we reckon:

Midnight Oil – ‘First Nation’ (feat. Jessica Mauboy & Tasman Keith)

Rock and roll icons Midnight Oil along with R&B singer and rap lord Tasman Keith hit us with a powerful tune with an equally powerful and important message behind it. Tasman’s bars hit extremely hard with the rapper drawing on his personal experiences living in a world where First Nations people are routinely ignored and dismissed.
