Been a while between drinks for GUM.

Have you been craving GUM recently? It feels like a while since 2018’s The Underdog, which spawned one of our favourite hooks of the decade in the form of ‘Couldn’t See Past My Ego’, and we’ve been wondering when we’d be hearing some new earworms from Jay Watson. Playing in Tame Impala and POND is a pretty good excuse for not punching out solo albums… we suppose.

Anyways, today the multi-instrumentalist has offered a brand new track and a shiny new video to go with it. ‘Out In The World’ pairs euphoric funk with Watson’s spacey vocals as he describes that sinking feeling that many of us will be all too familiar with.

“’Out In the World’ is about wanting to give up and never talk to anyone ever again after something goes wrong. Some people have that feeling all the time – it’s crippling and isolating,” Watson says of the single. “It sounds like light coming through half-shut blinds. It’s not possible for all, but for me, I force myself to go out again, or get on stage, or do whatever it is I have to do to keep moving on,” he adds.

Shot by Canadian filmmaker Laura-Lynn Patrick, the visual accompaniment for Out In The World captures Watson in solitude in dreamy panoramic scenes. Check it out below and stay tuned for more GUM – we’re hoping this is the first piece of a larger body of work!
