The Sunshine Coast shredders are moving to Europe, but not before one hell of a goodbye tour.

With the six years since their inception seeing them play loads of shows around the country, release their ripping debut LP The World Today, and blowing the minds of anyone who calls themself a fan of psych, it’s time for fuzzy trio Hobo Magic to say goodbye. But don’t worry – it’s not one of those “forever” goodbyes.

The group have announced that they’ll be hitting the road for one last hurrah before they move to Europe to melt faces all over the continent. Their ‘Hooroo Tour’ kicks off at The Station in Newcastle on Friday before they take over Sydney’s Frankie’s Pizza on Saturday (all tour info). Be sure to get yourself along to the show, as who knows when we’ll be able to catch The Hobos in our own backyard again…

We caught up with singer/guitarist Connor Mitchell to find out when we can expect new music, the big move, and the ‘Hooroo Tour’:

The ‘Hooroo Tour’ announcement video was a cinematic masterpiece. How’d you come up with the idea for that? Are The Hobos secret Lord Of The Rings nerds?

Thanks legend! we are all massive LOTR nerds haha. We love making funny clips for tours and the idea of recreating the rohan scene made sense as in some ways we feel like we are riding out into battle on tour and also towards Europe. We have a bunch of rad mates that share our sense of humour so it help having willing actors for all the shenanigans.

You’re making the big move to the UK. What was your motivation behind this massive decision?

A few things came into play with the move to Europe. We’ve been playing around Australia now live for around six years and after all the epic tours and times we feel that giving Europe the hobo groove is the right thing. The scene over there is full of bands that are on the forefront of heavy rock and psych so for us we are keen to put ourselves in the middle of the action! We also are keen to travel and experience what the world has to offer through music which has been amazing so far.

You guys have been the underground rifflords of Australia for quite some time. Are you planning on taking the riff mainstream over there?

I guess we will play our grooves hard and loud and if the people dig it it’s a bonus as always!

What are you looking forward to most over there in terms of music?

Most of our favourite bands hail from Europe and the U.K so for us it will be a music pilgrimage forsure. There seems to be such a healthy live music scene in that part of the world and a real appreciation for quality musicianship and pushing the boundaries which is one thing that excites us about the place. Being exposed to inspiration constantly will only make us want to push our craft also, so it shall be amazing!

What are you excited about outside of music?

Things that excite all of us outside of music probably would be cheap beers, meeting epic humans on our travels, experiencing different cultures, Free pool tables and medieval battle reenactments.

If you could only fit on thing in your bag (other than instruments) what are you guys packing?

Greasy would probably pack a big bottomless bag of green. Luke would pack his throwing axes and I’d probably pack a sausage dog.

‘Cosmic Cream’ was the last thing we heard from you guys back in 2018. Is there new music on its way anytime soon?

There is indeed! ‘Cosmic Cream’ and ‘Sonic Sword’ are singles of our next album release which we are finishing of as we speak. The album shall be called Mt Mind and it has some our most intense and progressive music we’ve created i reckon. Very keen to get it out!

Will the ‘Hooroo Tour’ be emotional for you guys? What can we expect to see at these shows?

It will be very emotional for us all I think. The years we have spent as a band on the road around Australia and as part of its amazing music scene have been life changing. We’ve met friends that are now like family to us and made so many memories along the way so the last shows shall be a big emotional love fest. I guess expect to see a lot of hugs, beers, cheers and riffs!
