The Aussie crooner dishes up a soulful debut.

After listening to E.J. Worland’s debut single ‘Drown In You’ it quickly becomes clear whilst the Australian has chosen to make The States his home. The track is just the kind of thing you can imagine oozing out of a smokey New Orleans bar – one of those gems that you just happen to stumble across and never want to leave.

‘Drown In You’ features a shuffling beat that pushes along the crafty keys and shimmering guitars nicely gelling with a groovy bass line. It’s smooth as fuck, but nothing compared to the vocals. Here we really feel the power of Worland, backed by some gospel-flavoured harmonies, delivering a performance that is raw and full of hooks.

“For years I stopped myself from making music like this due to self-doubt, “Is this cool?, is this what people want to hear? Will this get played on the radio?” And all that carry on,” Worland says of the track. “Finally I let go and surrendered to it and it’s been the best decision I’ve made.”

“I’ve found a sound I feel completely at home with, inspired by the likes of Bill Withers and Marvin Gay records. Sonically “Drown In You” to me is like a burger with the lot, it’s got everything. From cinematic strings; to rich, warm back up vocals, this song takes me back to my hometown, in the back seat of my Commodore to where my memories were formed. It is nostalgia. ”
