Step right into Velvet Trip’s time machine.

Having set stages around town alight with their highly improvised take on psych-rock over the last six months or so, Sydney four-piece Velvet Trip have finally dropped their debut clip. As you would expect from the Hendrix inspired rockers, the ‘Take Control’ video is a trippy (no pun intended) collage of kaleidoscopic visuals, reminiscent of a wild 60’s house party – and we are all about it.

The group, which consists of Zeppelin Hamilton (vocals/guitar), Nick Savvas (bass), Sinj Clarke (keys), and Clayton Allen (drums), have clearly got an itch for jamming and experimentation, and they aren’t afraid to scratch it. The track, which is taken from their forthcoming debut LP Velvet Trip & The Six Moon Skies, was recorded live in studio with minimal overdubs, an unusual practice that gives it a certain rawness and powerful energy.

Aesthetically inspired by the heydays of rock and roll, the clip paints the band in evolving floral and patterned projections as they do their thing for the camera. Directed by Claire Salter and Harry Webber, with Liam French on board as DOP, the message in the video is clear – it’s an invitation to come along on the trip.

Velvet Trip will be launching ‘Take Control’ at the Botany View Hotel December 15th with supports from Eagle Eye Jones and Gypsys Of Pangea – info here.
