A fortnight ago, iconic Sydney venue The World Bar announced that it would be shutting its doors.

Many DJs and bands cut their teeth at World Bar’s wild nights, while many of us forged out favourite clubbing memories within those sweaty Kings Cross walls. So while many farewelled World Bar with one last teapot, it has now been announced that The World Bar will be returning this week, just in time for the holiday season.

The World Bar returns with a new name – Cali Club – and will be run by Dane Gorrel and Matt Weir, who have worked on fellow Sydney venues and parties like Club 77 and S.A.S.H. Importantly, they’ve also retained The World Bar’s infamous mid-week romper, The Wall, while iEntertainment and Poster Child will also hold nights at Cali Club.

“We need to preserve our nightclub institutions. They have a tremendous impact on Sydney’s culture, and once they go, it’s incredibly hard for them to return. We really want to help keep the candle burning for our city’s night life and continue the venue’s legacy,” Gorrel says. “World Bar means a tremendous deal to a lot of people, so we like to think of Cali Club as just the next chapter in the venue’s colourful history. Cali Club is fun, young and all about having a great time, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back next week.”

Cali Club opens this Wednesday, December 12 – so head along and welcome Sydney’s newest nightlife addition.
