Sydney’s nightlife scene is in a drastically different place from a few years ago – and now this short, slow-motion video has highlighted the extent of the damage by commemorating the city’s venues closed by the lockout laws.

Backroom, Goldfish, The Exchange, Hugos Lounge, The Flinders Hotel: These are just some of the now-defunct nightspots where many Sydneysiders spent their weekends, and where many DJs and performers got their start in the local music scene. All of these venues feature in this sombre video from Shifted Pictures, which feels like a visual eulogy of sorts to Sydney’s once thriving nightlife scene.

With a melancholy soundtrack provided by Jim Finn of Art Vs. Science, this will surely conjure up some clubbing memories and get you very emotional about the golden years of turning 18 and having an all-nighter. Even more alarmingly, this video only documents what’s happened over the past 24 months. We’d still like to encourage everyone to keep supporting the venues that are left, and the clubs that they love – check back on LWA every Friday to see all of our favourite spots in our weekly ‘Five Parties You Shoud Attend This Weekend‘ article.
