We caught up with neo-soul artist Milan Ring for the 5th instalment of Rekorderlig Sauna Sounds.

Mixing spicy beats with smooth yet powerful vocals, and inescapable R ‘n’ B flavours, Sydney producer Milan Ring undoubtedly has a knack for drawing in listeners. Her latest single ‘Drifting’ racking up over 100K Spotify plays in a few weeks is testament to her ability to write tunes that are not only intimate, but also befitting a packed club dancefloor.

The Milan Ring live show is something you have to experience as well. Blending live percussion, electronic drums, raw guitar takes, and her sizzling vocals, she uses loops to build swelling orchestral arrangements that hypnotise listeners. “It was kind of like an experiment and people just really seemed to like it, seeing songs kind of grow in a live setting,” she says shortly after her Rekorderlig Sauna Sounds performance.

As you can see from her entrancing rendition of ‘Drifting’ for Rekorderlig Sauna Sounds, it’s clear she’s more than capable of turning on the party vibes in any location. “It was definitely my first time playing in a sauna, not being in a sauna, but playing music in a sauna,” she laughs. “It was crazy and it was very intimate, but it was fun.”

The passion for jamming and writing with other musicians still burns inside Milan, who is a regular collaborator with dance/hip-hop acts in the Sydney scene. “I like to experiment and change things up, so it’s not going to be like forever that I’m a solo, one-woman show, not at all. Because I just would miss it. I love playing with a band,” she says.

You can catch her supporting Hermitude in Melbourne and Sydney in November (info here), and playing Y & O Sundays, North Wollongong (info here), and follow this link to stream ‘Drifting’.
