The trunks sync perfectly with the South African’s style.

Now more than ever it seems that designing your sponsored clothing range or board is a hugely collaborative process. Vans have seemingly made it their business to have as much of the athlete’s input on the design of a shoe, shirt, or short as possible, which is evident with their new Surf Trunk 2.5 drop with Michael February.

“I drew inspiration for this collection from a lot of things to do with Africa; African textiles and traditional tribal patterns—just a whole African vibe,” Mikey said. “It’s important to collaborate in this way as Vans has so many rad and diverse riders, and everyone is different. Working on this project with Vans, I felt like I learned a lot but also got to express myself and show my side of things.”

The details on the side of the shorts, which feature Vans’ Lock Trunk Technology, is eye-catching without being overly ‘loud’, thanks to the black and white colourway. It also comes with three footwear styles that complement the pack: the UltraRange EXO SE and SK8-Hi 138 Decon SF in black/military, and the Classic Slip-On SF in black/olive with coordinating artwork.

Check out some of the imagery, head here to shop the new trunk right now, and why not chuck on Mikey’s exclusive potify playlist while you’re there!
