Vanity Fair has just unveiled their latest issue’s cover feature starring Caitlyn Jenner. Formerly known as Bruce Jenner, American Olympic gold medalist and television personality, whose marriage to Kris Kardashian launched a hundred socialites (thank you, based Bruce). The magazine revealed that the sports star has completed her transition into a female. But why is this such an important, news-worthy and inspiring countless think pieces?

Jenner originally announced her transition with Diane Sawyer in April, saying how she had felt like she was living in someone else’s body for her entire life, and also how she hoped that her going public with her transition would help trans people everywhere, saying: “We’re going to change the world.”

Arguably, Caitlyn is now the face of the most public transition of a celebrity into a female that has ever been broadcast. Like everything the public lives of those in the Jenner-Kardashian union, there seems to have been a massive show of support for Caitlyn’s coming out that is a victory for those going through a similar change and those struggling with their own gender identity. It’s just a shame it was an issue that could only be positively received by the platforming of an already famous person and a show of support from other celebrities. Hopefully, now that Caitlyn’s gender-dysphoria has been made so public we can support others trans-identifying people, and address the issue on a wider scale — including that there is only one hospital in the whole of Australia that has the facilities to treat young people going through the very same thing.
