West initially brainstormed the idea for use in the Gold Digger music video.

Kanye West has claimed that Quentin Tarantino stole his idea for Django Unchained, basing the 2012 film on a pitch he’d given to lead actor Jamie Foxx. Making the revelation during an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored over the weekend, the rapper said he’d brainstormed a similar idea as the basis of the music video of his 2005 song ‘Gold Digger’, which featured Foxx’s supporting vocals.

West then claimed to have pitched a slavery-themed music video to the actor, but it ultimately never materialised. The clip ‘Gold Digger’ currently features a montage of Foxx and West dancing with various pin-up models. “Tarantino can write a movie about slavery, where actually — him and Jamie — they got the idea from me,” West explained, “the idea for Django I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger.’

“And then Tarantino turned it into a film.” While neither Foxx nor Tarantino have responded to the claims, it marks West’s latest mention of the Hollywood pair, having recently named Foxx as his choice candidate to play him in a potential music biopic. Elsewhere, West contributed the song ‘White Dress’ to the soundtrack of The Man With the Iron Fists, a Tarantino-produced movie released in 2012.

Elsewhere in the Piers Morgan interview, West addressed the backlash he received over anti-Semitic Tweets he’d shared earlier this month, saying Tarantino’s filmography is evidence of the absence of limits to free speech, given the movie is filled with racial slurs and still readily accepted by audiences. “I just want to give every Jewish person a big hug,” West said.
