Couldn’t imagine Deadpool having any other rating…

It’s safe to say the last year has been extremely unpredictable for the film industry, studios across the world forced to heavily adjust how they make films while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. One film franchise that was in unpredictable waters before the pandemic however was none other than Deadpool, with Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox last year causing a waves of doubt to wash over the bombastic franchise.

Would Deadpool remain R-rated in a PG-13 universe? Would he still be a disgusting-potty mouth with an insatiable need for violence? Could he even make an appearance in the MCU, now that he’s a part of Disney? Well, Marvel boss and every nerd’s favourite person Kevin Feige has answered all of the above in a recent interview, and luckily he’s on the same wavelength as us.

While promoting Marvel’s WandaVision series, Feige took the time to answer all our questions and more regarding production timelines, stating that “It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun.

“Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

No doubt fans are gonna be ecstatic with that news, and it’ll be sick to eventually see Deadpool interact with other characters in the MCU (I’m just picturing trolling the fuck out of Spiderman or even taking the piss out of Captain Marvel).

Regarding not filming this year, that’s probably to be expected, considering Reynolds has his hands full as it is and the fact that the COVID situation in the U.S. makes it next to impossible to safely film at the moment. But regardless, we’ve still got tonnes of sequels to look forward to next year, with Thor 4, Spiderman 3, Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2 already in the pipeline and set to be released in 2022. So I think we’ll have enough to hold us down until Deadpool 3 in 2023.
