The last we heard from Kanye West was his polarising (and sometimes confusing) NYE surprise track ‘Facts’, but to be quite honest, this American Idol audition footage is much more enjoyable. The Chi-town rapper has hit the reality series for his own shot at stardom, armed with an acapella version of the Jamie Foxx assisted banger ‘Gold Digger’.

“My name is Kanye, I’m from the south side of Chicago. I’m originally a producer. I always wanted to rap and no one really believed in me, so I wanted to try some things out,” he says while standing in front of Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. He then references ‘Gold Digger’ as a track which includes a line about one of those judges – more specifically, Jennifer Lopez’s curves – and dives headfirst into his performance.
