Wilson Gavin is believed to have taken his own life, according to the Daily Mail.

Just hours after footage surfaced of members of University of Queensland’s Young Liberals protesting a drag queen reading to children, the group’s president has reportedly died by suicide. Wilson Gavin was found dead at 7AM at a train station in Chelmer, a suburb in Brisbane’s south.

The video of Gavin, an openly gay man, confronting a drag queen at a Brisbane Storytime event was condemned widely by news outlets, celebrities and pundits featured. One such celebrity who was critical was Veronicas singer Jessica Origliasso who took to Instagram to lodge her disappointment at the behaviour of the UQ Young Liberals. *Edit* this post has since been removed.

Mr Gavin was also publicly criticised after he and a fellow UQ Young Liberal filmed students at Schoolies Week in Surfers Paradise. The video was deemed offensive to Indigenous Australians after an interviewee stated: “We’ve got to stop celebrating a culture that couldn’t even invent the bloody wheel, for God’s sake.” In 2017, Gavin also faced backlash for opposing same-sex marriage and fronting a “You Can Say No” rally.
