New tunes, who dis?

Yes, yes, it’s that time of the week when for some unknown (but awesome) reason we get served up a smorgasbord of new music. Hopefully, we’ll give you that little taste that will inspire you to go take a deep dive into some of these artists this weekend. Seriously, what else are you gonna do? Check out these brand new tunes/vids that have dropped literally in the past 24 hours or so, presented by our pals Jim Beam:

Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys – ‘5AM’

Inner West folkish darling Caitlin Harnett and her mustachioed crew have delivered another slice of country-flavoured bliss in the form of ‘5AM’ this week. Soulful harmonies, gorgeous melodies and Harnett’s charming voice collide nicely on this one, as we are lulled into a dreamy Americana daze. The video, directed by Aimee-Lee X. Curran, awesomely captures the outlaw vibes of the track, with the gang taking over Australian Pioneer Village for a vintage tale of free love… or, perhaps, forced love. Check it:

A.GIRL – ‘Lola’

Ready to bounce this weekend? A.GIRL’s latest video will have you shaking in your seat and pining for those days when we could head out to a packed dance floor with a group of temporary friends and party the night away. Infectiously catchy and filled to the brim with R&B trimmings, the track holds a feminist message underneath the trap beats and big hooks: “I don’t like it when you tell me I can’t, just because of what’s between my knees,” A.GIRL preaches in the breakdown. Tropical Fuck Storm – ‘Heaven’

Taking on Talking Heads’ 1979 classic ‘Heaven’ is like stepping on sacred ground. If it were to be walked anyone, we’re glad it was Tropical Fuck Strom, and of course, they’ve nailed it. The track, which has even more significance given the state of the world, sees the group create a verbed-out soundscape with Gareth Liddiard’s unmistakable vocals giving it the emotive push that it so sorely deserves. Thinking about our mates down in Melbs as we play this one.

“Heaven is this weird chameleon-like tune which has meant one thing for about 40 years. But in light of all this pandemic shit and all the trouble and strife in the western world has done a total 180-degree flip, and now Heaven means the reverse of what it once did. It also has a lovely melody,” Liddiard explains.

Slow Pulp – ‘At It Again’

Chicago-based outfit Slow Pulp sent us a shoegazey/surfy/punky delight from their forthcoming debut full length Moveys. ‘At It Again’ is their heaviest release from the LP (due Oct 9th) to date and sees the quartet maintain that sombre melodic backbone, whilst getting gritty and spacey with guitars. Watch them roll around on sand dunes in celebration below and pre-order the Moveys here:

Bruce Springsteen – ‘Letter To You’

So we’re rounding out this week’s list with a new one by The Boss. That’s right. It’s always a good day to listen to New Jersey’s favourite son. Chuck this one by the iconic rocker as you’re walking out of the door today and straight into the weekend. EN-JOY:
