The Byron Bay lads are back with a dreamy new number, ‘Too High To Say Hello’.

It’s rare that you hear a song that evokes such a strong visceral reaction that it feels like you’re ‘watching’ it at the same time that you’re listening to it. Sunrose’s latest tune conjures up a kaleidoscope of warm colours and soft shapes that makes it seem like you are embodying the ethos of the song’s title, ‘Too High To Say Hello’. In short, it’s a warm and sugary trip that draws you right into their world.

Through the sampled sounds of nature in the intro, the four-piece lay the basis for a texturally rich ride full of rolling drums, smooth keys, and cruisy vocals. It’s a honed-in version of the Sunrose we heard on their Strawberry Wine EP of last year, with the group really hitting their stride in terms of musicality and production, whilst maintaining the core psychedelic flavours that has seen them garner the attention of punters around the country.

“We recorded Too High to Say Hello ourselves at Julian Abbott’s studio No Wave. It was a new process for us recording each instrument individually and slowly building the song piece by piece which gave us more freedom to focus on how each part interrelated,” the band says.

You can catch Sunrose launching ‘Too High To Say Hello’ single this Saturday at the Northern in Byron, with supports from Sophie Ozard and Peach Fur – info here.
