Adding to the list of musicians who are putting on shows from home, French multi-instrumentalist FKJ has treated us to a special live performance of Ylang Ylang EP, and it’s absolutely enthralling. From the killer home studio to the stacks of musical loops and mad piano skills, it’s kinda impossible not to fall in love with the 20-minute-clip. Cranking out five of the six tracks on the 2019 EP, FKJ’s full musical arsenal is on display as he goes from playing guitar, piano and saxophone all the while using his midi controller and even blessing us with some mad vocals. Even ‘Risk’ collaborator Bas joins in on the fun (from a separate studio of course) to jam out a special version of their smash together.
Speakong on the EP, FKJ said in a statement “It’s not a single; I want to present it a more like a conceptual one, like a film scoring of that time and place,” he said in a statement. “Last year I spent about six months in a very remote tropical place where I setup a studio. There is almost no one there. No electricity. I was making music out of a generator that was running only by night. The most beautiful landscapes, mountains, beaches. It’s one of my favourite places in the world. When I made music there it felt kind of like a dream state.”
This live performance definitely feels like a dream, filled with enough musical magic to light up the night skies. Check out the full performance below.
