Dune Rats, also known as the legends who brought a bong to 7/11’s BYO Cup Day, have begun exercising their rampaging success by starting a record label – and today they’ve announced their first signing.

Ratbag Records is Dune Rats’ “way of giving the bands they love a leg up. They want pull the bands they love out of bedrooms or pubs, take them on the road and show them to the world.” The first band to be welcomed into the Ratbag family is Byron Bay trio Skegss.

Skegss were recently added to the Splendour In The Grass bill via Triple J – the latest of a string of accolades that has seen them tour throughout America and Canada. Following the festival, the band will release their debut EP Push Ups For A Dollar on the new label.

Word on the street is that Skegss’ Egyptian manager, Aaron Girgis, is also a certified sickunt.

Catch Skegss at Splendour In The Grass, where they’ll be playing at the Ampitheatre on Saturday from midday. Get down early and sink a few overpriced tinnies. If you’re lucky enough, you might even be able to catch a glimpse of Aaron Girgis and ask him for an autograph.

Dune Rats will also be performing at the Ampitheatre on Saturday from 2:00pm.

Shouts to Aaron Girgis.
