Cut Snake
Made In America.

It’s funny how some of our greatest accomplishments can be born in the most unlikely of circumstances. It was a bout of rainy weather that forced professional wave-riders Paul Fisher and Leigh Sedley indoors at a surfing tour in Hawaii some eight years ago. With a mutual love of house music, they bought some basic audio equipment and the world witnessed Cut Snake’s gloriously humble birth.

Fast forward to 2014, and the duo have a record deal, packed out shows across the world, and are basically living a dream filled with rambunctious gigs, picturesque waves and plenty of booze. With America currently undergoing a sizeable boom in dance music, we were lucky enough to join the two bros as they played Made In America in Los Angeles – The festival curated by one of our all-time heroes, Jay Z. Here’s how it went down:

Here’s Cut Snake’s trailer, the psych-up zone that serves as the best pre-game watering hole before performance time. Importantly, this trailer also had air conditioning. God bless the smart bro who invented air conditioning, especially on a sun-soaked Los Angeles day like this.

“Look Leigh, we Made it in America!” (Cue Soulja Boy & Drake celebratory song)

A call to the crowd.

Time to get to work…

CS_24_04

And when we say work, we mean Paul taking his shirt off, grabbing a microphone and yelling obscenities at the crowd. Everybody knows that it’s one thing to be a DJ, and it’s another to have the energy and personality to hold the entire crowd in the palm of your hand. These two are definitely ones who let their charisma bleed into their live performances. By the way, how good is being shirtless?

Paul taking a quick lap around the stage during performance time.

Actually, he’ll for a quick siesta on the stairs – catching one of the few spots with enough shade to cool off for a second.

Where the magic happens.

And while Leigh is still commanding the decks…

Paul is down with the fans, joining in with their selfies. After all, he is famous for his Instagram antics – We suggest you check them all out here. He even has a video where he’s taking a mid-surf selfie with his girlfriend while a Beach Boys song plays in the background. Amazing #LIFEGOALS

And that’s a wrap!

CS_24_10

The Mad Hueys merchandise aplenty. Cut Snake manager Brett Fischer (Manager) walks off stage with Paul, making sure he doesn’t stop for too many selfies with the crowd.

CS_24_11

Easier said than done.

CS_24_12

After the show, Cut Snake’s close crew gathers to discuss the show and hang out. Peep the strong rap squat and shaka combination from Brett in the front row.

Paul and Leigh manage to squeeze in an interview with Channel 4 news. Big time media exposure! A 10 minute interview where the two talked about American and Australian fans, the festival and their plans for world domination. The questions were answered, but mostly filled with laughs in classic Cut Snake fashion.

Brews were a little hard to find at the festival, so when Leigh grabs a Budweiser, they make sure that they keep on flowing.

CS_24_15

Might just give the legs a little rest now.

CS_24_17

Paul with his girl, Chloe Chapman. She’s the mind behind swimwear label Aloe, and also the sister of professional surfer Cooper Chapman. Our friends at Stab also think she’s one of the most beautiful pro-surfer girlfriends, and we’ve got to agree.

CS_24_16

At this moment, word spreads of an exclusive VIP area. Unconfirmed text messages include key words like “free booze” and “air conditioning”. The lads love air conditioning. Paul, Leigh and Chloe are now on a mission to find this place and lounge appropriately inside.

CS_24_18

Mission successful! Here are the crew, 10 stories up in the air-conditioned VIP. They reflect on the show that just took place, especially the quotes that Paul doesn’t remember yelling into the microphone. These included “After this let’s all rob Starbucks!” and “We came all the way from Australia for you fucking cunts.” Strong form, excellent banter.

CS_24_19

What a view! The fruit, meat and cheese bar made it easy to throw grapes at the punters below. Hehe.

CS_24_20

But you know what’s better than throwing grapes at people? Watching Chicago spitter Chance the Rapper absolutely kill it.

CS_24_21

And an extravagant smooch to cap off an amazing day.
