Come a long way from ‘Neighbours’…

Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie is definitely on a roll, recently starring in the Quentin Tarantino gem Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and headlining her own anti-hero smash Birds of Prey. Now, the homegrown treasure has bagged her next blockbuster-role, set to star in the new female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean film. The film is reportedly separate from the previously announced reboot of the beloved franchise and will focus on a completely different story to the Jack Sparrow narrative. The script is set to be written by Unforgettable, Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Chrisinta Hodson, who’s been recently tapped to write DCEU films The Flash and Batgirl.

Since its start in 2003, the Pirates franchise has gone on to gross $4.5 billion worldwide. The previously announced reboot of the beloved series will be the first to not feature Jack Sparrow actor Johnny Depp in the lead role. When asked about Depp’s exit, president of production at Walt Disney Sean Bailey was confident that the franchise would be just as successful without the inclusion of Depp’s iconic character. Only time will tell.

But we’re definitely keen af for Robbie to get her inner swashbuckler on in the Caribbean. No doubt she’ll be kicking some serious ass along the way. Check out the trailer of the OG Pirates film from 2003 for a bit of nostalgia below.
