Disney’s 1941 film Dumbo is getting a Tim Burton makeover and we can confirm nothing from your childhood is sacred.

Do you remember Dumbo? The cartoon elephant with big dreams and massive ears? His uplifting story proved to us that anything could happen if we truly believe? Well, the average lifespan of an elephant is 70 years, so it’s safe to say that elephant is well and truly dead. But it’s not all doom and gloom, the trailer from the Tim Burton’s Dumbo is here and… Wait, actually, it is pretty gloomy.

Only the man behind films like Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride could give this tale of triumph such creepy undertones. The trailer is not all that dark, but there’s something creepy happening with the music that gives us the sense that this is not the childrens film you once loved.

The cast is pretty stacked with Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Alan Arkin on board the live-action remake, that will no doubt divide audiences. Is a facelift to an old film the best way to preserve its memory? Or should big studios stop messing with our childhood memories?

The film is due out in March 2019, and you can compare trailers right here:
