Fresh off the back of a huge 2018 that saw them take out triple j’s Hottest 100 with their wah-laden banger ‘Confidence’, from their platinum album Chiaroscuro, Ocean Alley have returned with a shiny new single and video. ‘Stained Glass’ sees the six-piece dip their toes further into the psychedelic realm, dropping the anthemic choruses for delay-heavy hook – and we’re all for it.

Visually, the clip is like looking at your grandma’s curtains from the 70’s having just dropped a tab of acid, just without the musty smell. “‘Stained Glass’ is the first song we have written since the release of Chiaroscuro and began, as most of our songs do, with a chord and vocal idea for a verse that Baden envisioned. We recorded and mixed the track at the Grove Studios with our producer Callum Howell over two sessions with a focus on guitar tone and interwoven guitar parts – as has always been a staple in our production,” The band says.

“In the early writing stages we realised it was a great platform to explore guitar production in its entirety and with the help of newly acquired equipment and instruments we were able to create a spacious arrangement using interjecting guitar parts and organ sounds to embellish the rhythmic guitar strumming.”
