Definitely a hard hitting video…

Following much teasing and releasing as a part of his #WESTDAYEVER campaign, Kanye West has dropped the video for ‘Wash Us In The Blood’ featuring Travis Scott, and it’s definitely hard-hitting. The Dr Dre-mixed tune is the first single from West’s upcoming album God’s Country, which will continue the brand of gospel inspired hip hop West explored on Jesus Is King.

‘Wash Us In The Blood’ however definitely throws it back to a more Yeezus-era Ye, with an dark, abrasive beat that leans into the realm of social commentary, an area that West has leaned into before but not as much in recent years.

The video definitely addresses the racial tensions taking place across America as well as the world, starting with a montage of police confrontations with African-Americans. West then gets deep in his faith, as he requests for salvation for the black community with lyrics like ‘Wash us in the blood/ Holy Spirit Come Down’. La Flame also gets political on the record as well, rapping about the religious conflict of the death penalty, which is still legal in 30 U.S. states.

The video ends with some Jesus Is King gospel choirs juxtaposed with footage of West’s daughter North West at what appears to be a Sunday Service, seemingly having the time of her life. The whole video is definitely a return to more of an older Ye, and is definitely an interesting snapshot into the Chicago MC’s thoughts on the racial tensions gripping the U.S. Definitely check it out.
