Lambys
26 Moorabool St, Geelong
9pm

Call me mint jelly, ‘cos I’m on the lam! Let’s all go to Lambys, where there’s no such thing as lockout laws, and trading extends until 5:00am on public holidays. Doesn’t a bourbon taste that much better when you sip it slowly at 3:01 in the morning? While there’s an absolute goldmine of music talent in Geelong – the area is responsible for birthing everyone from Magic Dirt (shouts to Adilita) to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – there needs to be more support for live venues in the region. A gig with The Preatures isn’t a bad way to get the punters out and discussion flowing.

The Deck est 2013
2-4 Davey St, Frankston
3pm

Frankston is the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula – once a hotbed for the Australian hardcore punk scene – so it’s fair to say that the region has a heavy riff or two up its sleeve. The Deck Bar offers live music and not one, but two fireplaces within its walls – and is there anybody on Earth who doesn’t enjoy some good old fashioned fireplace banter? A rooftop adds some summer style and a nice place to watch the sunset and/or Port Phillip Bay. Plus, they are hosting a Christmas party named ‘Single Bells’ where you might find your soulmate. Incredible.

Westernport Hotel
161 Marine Pde, San Remo
9.30pm

Victoria might not be renowned for its beaches, but the Westernport Hotel sits comfortably on the seaside in the humble town of San Remo. The guestlist for this show has been maxed out, proving that San Remo has real love for The Preatures – but you can still squeeze your way in if you arrive down early on the night. They also apparently serve eggplant parmigiana here. Cool story alert: According to the San Remo Wikipedia page, the town had a population of 1017 in 2006. 1017? Do you think that Gucci Mane owns a holiday house here? SQUADDDDDDDD..

The College Lawn
36 Greville St, Prahran
2.30pm

Sometimes, all you want to do on a Sunday afternoon is lie on the grass and be held. The College Lawn will get you close, with a beer garden lined with man’s greatest invention since sliced bread: Astroturf. Shake off your dusty hangovers and head here in the early afternoon for a Sunday session to remember, and let Isabella Manfredi’s voice sooth your soul. Located a heartbeat away from Prahran’s busier streets, this will be a nice escape for the day. Plus, if you go too hard, they also provide accommodation if you need a cheeky power nap.
