In absolutely heartbreaking news, Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell has had to say goodbye to his grandmother following her death. It’s been common knowledge that the two were extremely close, with Mitchell’s mother sharing in 2019 that “Whenever we used to go over to his grandma’s house for dinner, we’d clear off the coffee table and he’d hop up there and dance to her old records,” she said. “That was our ritual. We’d have a nice little dance party.”
Taking to Instagram, Donovan posted a picture of him visiting her in the hospital along with the caption “I’m messed up man. I’m in shock! You were such a fighter! Without you this family isn’t here!”
He also shared that the last game of his she got to witness had him score a career-best at 57 points, with the star affirming “That was all you pulling me along… you stayed strong to watch me through it!”
“I love you grandma I will forever miss you! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU,” Mitchell ended the post with. He also followed up with a message on Twitter stating “There’s no me without you… I love you grandma.”
