For those who were left sorely disappointed by Suicide Squad, there was at least one redeeming factor about the DC blockbuster – and that was Margot Robbie’s role as Harley Quinn.
Rejuvenating Australia’s love affair with our most promising actress export, the praise for Robbie spread far and wide – so much so that they’re releasing a spin-off for her character titled Gotham City Sirens. The film will also focus on female supervillains from the series including Poison Ivy and Catwoman.
Rumours about the film have long circulated, but now we have confirmation that the film is indeed underway, with Robbie also sliding in for Executive Producer duties. Suicide Squad director David Ayer will be handling the same duties for Gotham City Sirens, with the script to be written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
Importantly, this isn’t a Suicide Squad sequel – that’s coming on top of another spin-off for Deadshot, portrayed by Will Smith. However, Gotham City Sirens will be the first to drop. That’s all the information we have for now, but we’re sure that it’s enough to have DC enthusiasts hoping for a big-screen redemption.
