A match made in heaven…

In one of the greatest moves of the 21st century, Vans and Tony Hawk are linking up for an official brand partnership, which will have Hawk producing new professional vert skateboarding competition whilst remaining a colour commentator of the Vans Park Series.

Hawk and the apparel juggernaut go way back, with Vans being the first skate shoes Hawk ever wore back in 1978, with the skateboarding legend saying “My dad bought me a pair and I begged him for the ‘ankle guard’ accessory because high-tops weren’t available yet. I wore Vans almost exclusively until the mid ‘80s”.

It seems Vans’ longstanding contribution to skateboarding culture isn’t at all lost on Hawk, with him saying  “I have always respected their [Vans] integrity, so it is an honour to officially join forces and help continue to grow skateboarding culture in the most authentic way possible.”

With all the craziness of the COVID-10 pandemic, the pair are focusing on the benefits skateboarding can provide at a time like this. Utilising everything from livestream campaigns, philanthropic give-back programs and creative product collaborations, there’s no doubt the dynamite team are going to unite the global skate communities in a way that’s never been done before.

“These days are extremely difficult for so many, which is why we are hoping to provide some fun and creativity for the global community to enjoy,” Hawk said. “In unprecedented times like these, we need to stay positive, support each other and keep creating.”
