And so it begins.

A few weeks back, Splendour In The Grass announced its 2018 dates.

And while the Splendour rumour mill usually works all year round, things have really started to heat up now. Arctic Monkeys have left a gap in their schedule that seems to point towards an appearance at the Byron mega-festival, and now, another international has gone further by locking themselves in for SITG.

In a live chat streamed to fans across social media, The Wombats have announced that they will be coming to Splendour, playing a set between Friday, July 20 and Sunday, July 22. “If anyone’s listening from Australia, we’re playing Splendour In The Grass this summer,” drummer Dan Haggis said. “Our manager just said we can tell you.”

Bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen backed up his statements by adding, “We are coming to Australia… We are definitely playing Splendour In The Grass.”

This backs up some not-so-subtle statements made by frontman Matthew Murphy last year, who was questioned about whether the band would be playing at Splendour. “Well, I can’t say! But maybe it is, maybe you’ve made a good guess (laughs),” he said. “I’m bad at keeping a secret.”

It doesn’t get more reassuring than that – catch The Wombats at Splendour, along with their new album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life which was released today. You can also watch the live stream below:
