After releasing music with OK MOON and touring with the likes of Matt Corby and the Antlers in Aus and the UK, Hayden Calnin is back and man, is he stronger than ever.

In his latest EP, A Life You Would Choose, Hayden has created a listening sensation so warm and beautiful that you can’t help but imagine what it would be like if you quit your job, say fuck you to the world and run into his arms, leaving all your problems behind. The EP focuses on Hayden’s living situation as he comes to terms with the fact that he needs to get away from the Inner-City Melbourne ‘burbs he called home for the previous decade.

Blending electronica with folk, Hayden’s music can be compared to artists such as M83 and Bon Iver. He has seriously nailed the vocals and harmonies throughout the project in a way which leaves you day-dreaming long after each song is finished. Rather than tuning into me carry on though, check out what Hayden had to say about each track below:

Fuck Collingwood

Fuck Collingwood is probably the first song I’ve put out that lyrically just speaks to you as it was, rather than trying to make it sound poetic or full of analogies. I just wanted it to feel as real as possible while sharing my story about needing to make a move to get out of the city.

Warm With You

A song about running away to live off of the land, or start a little oasis away from everything familiar. Alas, things can always sound better as an idea rather than a reality. This track went through several changes before I finally felt comfortable with the final recording.

On Our Last Day

Knowing that a moment could be your last with someone can hit hard. That’s in essence what this song is about.

Made of Everything & Late

These two instrumentals were late night jams that I laid down one evening after a big night out. They more or less represent my mood on both of those evenings. Although I had initially intended to lay down vocals I ended up feeling that they weren’t necessary to make the tracks feel complete.
