Today, the studio version of that track has been revealed after getting an initial spin on Triple J. It’s called ‘Better’ and features all of What So Not’s sonic trademarks – swirling synths that team with Plapinger’s vocals, building into a bouncing drop propelled by crispy percussion. “I had a few productions I’d been working on in this sonic field but struggled to find a vocalist with the right attitude and tone to fit. Lizzy and I clicked instantly on this vibe jamming on the tune,” WSN said.
While it’s uncertain if the track will appear on What So Not’s upcoming album, that full-length is expected soon, with Emoh hopping into Alison Wonderland’s radio show to discuss some of the guests that appear on the project. “I haven’t been worrying about getting a big name to try and get some extra hype, I’ve just been working with people I really like and care about, and admire their creativity and musicality,” he said.
Of course, ‘Better’ arrives on the brink of Listen Out, where What So Not will return home to perform at the festival’s four dates. He’ll be playing at primetime, warming up the main stage before the headline set from Southern rapper Future – listen to the new tune below, and expect to hear it live, very soon:
