Between his solo career, music with G-Unit, beefing with Ja Rule and his various entrepreneurial pursuits, it’s surprising that 50 even gets some shut eye every night, so it’s perfectly understandable as to why he might casually forget about a multi-million dollar pile of cryptocurrency he’s been holding for a few years.
Let’s rewind back to 2014. With the release of his album Animal Ambition, 50 Cent became the first rapper to allow fans to buy his album with cryptocurrency. Back in the good old days, one bitcoin was worth around $662 in US currency, with the rapper able to secure 700 bitcoins in album sales. As the price of a single bitcoin has skyrocketed to $11,300 today, that means 50’s stockpile has risen to a worth of $7 million to $8.5 million.
Perhaps the best part of the story is that 50 forgot he even did the whole bitcoin thing until a fan reminded him on Instagram. “I’m a keep it real I forgot I did that shit,” he wrote in the comments section of Instagram.
