When it comes to our mates in the United States, it doesn’t get more American than beer, contact sports, warm apple pie and a guy named Robert O’Neill, who just happens to be the former Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden. And if there’s anything to make you salute the red, white and blue – especially the red part – it’s the fact that Robert was listening to Compton rapper The Game before he took out the terrorist leader in 2011.
While he participated an anonymous interview with Esquire in 2013, O’Neill’s identity was kept under wraps until he outed himself before a Fox News program titled The Man Who Killed Osama bin Laden. And while he was criticised for breaking the Special Ops code of silence, it seems that revealing his identity has come with some perks. In an interview conducted with TMZ, O’Neill says he doesn’t have to pay for alcoholic beverages at bars (USA! USA! USA!) and was also asked about what music he was listening to on the night of his infamous killing.
“On the night of it? Yeah, I actually listened to ‘Red Nation’ by The Game,” he said. “He’s got some good stuff going on.” The Game’s track infamously sampled Zombie Nation’s immortal rave anthem ‘Kernkraft 400′ and also featured a guest verse from incoming Australian visitor, Lil Wayne. O’Neill also stated that he would love to meet The Game – do we sense a collaboration mixtape incoming?
You can watch O’Neill’s interview below, where you can also revisit The Game’s 2011 single. Let’s hope that ‘Red Nation’ gets a live performance when Lil Wayne arrives down under next month to headline Jumanji Festival alongside Wale, Metro Boomin, DJ Mustard and more:
