In another blow to Sydney’s nightlife scene, a longstanding venue that’s been serving up live music for 45 years is reportedly closing its doors in just a few days.

According to local musician Danny G Felix, CBD venue The Basement will be shutting its doors this week. “So it’s true.. The Basement is closing down in less than week,” Felix wrote on Facebook. “AMP the owners of the building are turning it into office spaces after 45 years of live music almost every night. So tomorrow night will be the last Monday jam at the basement. Lets make it a good one.”

Originally a hub for jazz musicians and emerging talents, The Basement since expanded to host acts of all shapes and sizes, including local rap selectors Halfway Crooks and internationals like Denzel Curry. Though there are acts booked at The Basement until late 2018, there’s been no official word from the venue as to whether the gigs will go ahead, or whether its closure has been locked in.

Stay tuned for more information, but it seems like Sydney has lost a nightlife veteran.
