The Lennox Head rockers deliver one of the sexiest tunes you’ll hear this year.

After drawing us in with their previous singles ‘Man You Want Me To Be’ and ‘Love Decide,’ indie-rock lords WHARVES have take things up a notch with their brand new groover ‘High School Hero.’ It’s a tune about THAT guy from school, the one you were so close to calling out on his BS, but, ahh, you just never got around to it. Well now we can have our revenge – in song form.

Blending the upbeat stylings of Gang Of Four, the noirish tongue-in-cheek lyricism of Queens Of The Stone Age and the shiny production of Arctic Monkeys, the group have created an addictively catchy, twisted pop tune. Not bad considering they nearly forgot about the song.

“High School Hero’ started off as a simple demo, sounding like a nursery rhyme. It was a bit ridiculous and we almost forgot about it. Then we brought it into the studio and breathed fresh life into it, trying our lyrics from another song on this one,” vocalist Matt Collins explains.

In case you were wondering, that’s the guys on back up vocals yelling out in the choruses (not an American high school cheer squad) and there’s a healthy dose of sarcasm in there too.

“Initially as a joke, we decided to try a catchy chant vibe, like Devo, Pet Shop Boys, and Chess the musical, but it worked almost too well, so the song now features us pretending to be cheerleaders, chanting ‘High School Hero Number One!’ in unison,” Matt says.

WHARVES will be taking ‘High School Hero’ on the road over April and May so be prepared to boogie when they roll on in to your town – info here.
