With Splendour In The Grass tickets selling out after, like 15 mins, we thought we’d have a look at some homegrown first-timers who we are psyched to be seeing this year.

As July creeps closer and closer the thousands of lucky punters who nabbed tickets morning and are heading to Splendour have a lot to consider – planning the pilgrimage to Byron, borrowing your uncles/cousins/any randoms tent, sorting out rations (A.K.A 500 packs of two-minute noodles), dusting of your once a year festival attire and, of course, sussing out which artists you’re actually going to see.

We thought we’d help you out with one of those (no, you can’t borrow my tent) by selecting some must see Aussie acts who are playing the festival for their first time this year, because we all know that planning these kind of things now is way easier than trying to check your schedule whilst juggling four cans of beer at the festival. You can thank us in July.

Amyl and the Sniffers

Having signed with Melbourne indie label Flightless Records earlier this year, the group with the highest mullet-to-band member ratio on the bill, will be heading up North to attack our ears (in the best way). One of the most exciting Aussie punk acts in recent memory, Amyl and co have been in constant demand all over the country in 2017/18 and will definitely be causing a sweaty ruckus in July.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

Currently playing Coachella, the Melbourne five-piece’s brand of Go-Betweens-esque rock and roll feels like it belongs on the jukebox of an outback pub. An exciting live act, complete with duelling vocals and plenty of wailing guitars, their much anticipated debut album Hope Downs will be out come Splendour which means we will have even more songs to shake to.

Alex The Astronaut

Having received loads of attention for her ‘how are you so talented’ songwriting abilities, the Sydney-based indie-folk artist unquestionably falls into the must-see category for this years SITG. There’s an upbeat, raw honesty on her sophomore EP, 2017’s See You Soon, that will be the perfect accompaniment to a cold beer on the Saturday afternoon.

West Thebarton

Fresh from a commanding set at this years Bad Friday and their brand new banger ‘Stuck On You,’ the Adelaide seven-piece embody the spirit of Aussie pub rock. Known for providing a tsunami of sound that can be heard a couple of blocks away, you can expect to see one of the biggest mosh pits at Splendour this year in front of whatever stage these guys are playing.

Didirri

One of the most hyped artists of 2017, the soulful Melbournian is capable of hitting you in the feels from nearly any location. Currently touring his latest single ‘Formaldehyde’ around the country, his commanding vocals, emotive lyrics and sawing melodies have seen him garner the attention of Triple J and capture the hearts of Aussies all over the country.
