Over the weekend, news broke that Avicii had passed away, aged 28 years old.

The Swedish producer – one of the most prolific stars of the dance music boom, and the first DJ to hold an arena tour in 2012 – was found dead in Oman, with police ruling out any foul play or criminal suspicion. Since then, tributes have poured for the star, including at Coachella where artists like Alison Wonderland and Kygo dedicated songs to him.

Avicii singles like ‘Levels’ and ‘Seek Bromance’ were omnipresent at clubs and festivals across the globe, with his catalogue having a truly monumental impact on dance music, its rise to the mainstream, and current popularity. Avicii retired from touring in 2016 after a long struggle with health problems.

Following his death, thousands gathered in his birthplace of Stockholm, in the central public square of Sergels torg. There, a moment’s silence was held before Avicii songs were played out to the crowd.
