Having hosted everyone from Kurt Cobain to Jay Z, the series sees the world’s biggest stars offer intimate, stripped-back versions of their favourite songs. MTV Unplugged will debut in Australia with rock heroes Gang of Youths performing at Cobblestone Pavilion on July 25, and just two days later, it has been announced that Amy Shark will perform there as the second artist of the series.
“Amy is the epitome of an Australian music superstar and it’s that success both here and overseas that made her a clear choice as the next MTV Unplugged Melbourne artist selected for this historic series,” Simon Bates of MTV said.
Before her MTV Unplugged appearance on July 27, Shark will release her album Love Monster on July 13, which features a guest appearance from pop-punk legend Mark Hoppus of Blink 182. After the gigs from Shark and Gang of Youths, there’s still two more MTV Unplugged performances slated for 2018, so stay tuned for more stars to go acoustic.
