Having made her Splendour debut last week, we get the inside tips on how to get over the post-festival blues from electro-indie artist, Woodes.

Still feeling a bit stale after Splendour? Struggling to get back ‘on the level’? Yeah, we know exactly what you are going through. Heading back into work after what was a super-fun weekend has been the punish of the year so far, and it seems that everything and everyone around is revelling our misery, being as loud/annoying/chirpy as they possibly can be. It’s called a festival hangover people, but don’t worry we have the solution.

With a dominating performance on the Tiny Dancer stage at Splendour, Elle Graham AKA Woodes, has left no doubt in our minds that she knows how to bring the party. Bringing festival attendees to their knees with fan favourite ‘Run For It’ and her latest ‘Change My Mind,’ the Melburnian is part of the reason we are wishing we were back at Splendour right now.

But does she know how to handle the after effects of the party as well as she knows how to handle a heaving crowd? With a national tour kicking off this September (info here), we certainly hope she does. Check out Woodes’ tips for getting through a festival hangover right here:

1. Hydrate!

I did a lot of yell-singing to Lorde and I felt like no matter how much water I consumed, I could do better. Post-SITG I have my water bottle by my side, running competitions with myself on how much I can consume. One of my favourite things is when present-me puts a big glass of water beside my bed and then future-me thanks past-me for the water in the morning.

2. Sleep is priority

Seems pretty self-explanatory, but this is the big one. After Splendour I got home, put my gear in the studio, clothes in the wash and slept for a long, long time.

3. Chill Music + Bedroom/studio re-set

I have a playlist on Spotify called ‘The Piano’ where I keep a bunch of my favourite piano songs. After a big weekend I like to be in a kind of peaceful space as I putter around my room, resetting life. I went from a national tour, to a writing camp and then straight to Splendour so my room really needed some love when I returned. Usually I open my suitcase and let everything jump out like an explosion then I bring it all back into piles.

I love puttering around my room, subtly changing the locations of things and finding stuff.

4. Eat Well & Veg out to your favourite shows

A big roast or lots of vegetables. Protein! Iron! I like making or ordering something wholesome and putting on one of my favourite TV shows. Blanket on the sofa.

5. Pitch a tent in your backyard & get some firewood!

If you are missing the Splendour lifestyle, remember – You can still put a tent in your home! You can light a fire (maybe do it in a fireplace or a safe fire pit…)

It’s still cold & fireplaces are very nice to look at & smell. I have put tents up inside my house before – I am not sure if it’s bad luck, like opening umbrellas inside…. But so far I am happy to report no curses.
