With her tracks from 2017 debut EP, Midnight Love attracting about a million Spotify streams, receiving radioplay worldwide and seeing her pack out venues across the country, fans of Sydney’s vintage-pop queen Sloan Peterson have undoubtedly been eagerly awaiting the first taste of her sophomore EP. Today we can say the wait has been worth it, with new track ‘Our Love’ ticking all the boxes.
Musically the tune is everything we’ve come to love about Sloan; a groovy number that combines the pop stylings of yesteryear with her commentary on contemporary love. “’Our Love’ was inspired by somebody who had a conflicting dream about her boyfriend being the devil, and had to break up with him and go back to this religion,” Sloan says. “The lyrics I wrote are kind of my interpretation of the a conversation between her and essentially God.”
Fittingly the clip, which was directed by Natasha Foster and Erin Fairs, is lush collage of sequined dresses and washed out lights that is reminiscent of a 60’s era James Bond soiree with hints of a femme fatale storyline. “The video is the first instalment of a two-part series about falling out of love, and having horrible thoughts. I contacted Natasha and Erin and explained the idea I had in my head, and they just jumped on it and did so much to make it happen. Incredible women who have immense talent,” Sloan says.
If this hasn’t convinced you that Sloan Peterson is one of the most exciting prospects in the Australian music scene right now, we don’t know what will. You can catch Sloan on the road for her ‘Our Love’ Tour this October.
