Bland take their sound to the next level on ‘The Great Divide’.

Having released their self-titled debut EP earlier in the year, Sydney’s self-described BBQ rock boys, Bland are back at it again. Their latest offering ‘The Great Divide’ is similarly rooted to the hooky, guitar-led, post-punk we’ve previously heard from the four piece, though it’s undoubtedly a much richer sound with a lusher production that allows singer Ollie Ellis’ vocals to really soar above the dense layers of guitars.

Lines like, “Will I die, if I’m left to my own device,” illuminate a dark contemplativeness that sticks with you long after the track has finished. “A depiction of loss and a comment on how loss is too often received with cynicism, the song is a personal reflection of choices, free will and the concept of fate,” the band says.

It’s easy to imagine this one going down well with punters in a live setting too. There’s no shortage of energy between the rolling drums and relentless guitars (we counted at least four) which don’t let up for the entirety of the track’s four and half minutes. It’s as if you’re being pummelled with instrumentation, yet smothered with romanticism by the lyrics – an enchanting experience.
