It seems there’s loads of new music coming out right now around the country. Maybe everyone’s trying to get some tunes out before the Christmas break, maybe everyone is trying to get on the holiday road trip playlist bandwagon, maybe we’re reading way too deeply into it? Who knows. Whatever the reason, we’re stoked to have plenty of brand new music to get to you.

Bland
We were stoked to premiere Sydney post-punk outfit Bland’s latest single ‘The Great Divide’ earlier in the month, and frankly we still haven’t got sick of it. Jangly guitars and lyrics with a dark-pop lean make this one of the most infectious tracks we’ve heard all year. You can catch them live launching this single on December 14th at Waywards – info here.
If you are in the mood for some sultry folk, Sydney artist Aislinn Young is where you should be looking. Her voice is reminiscent of Stevie Nicks, but with a more raw and stripped back vibe that reaches in and pulls at your heartstrings. ‘Down Your Lane’ sways like lovers on a dancefloor, and is a great example Young’s ability to write tunes laced with intrigue and allure. She’ll be playing at Folkswagon December 12th – info here.
Might be stretching it to call The Goochies ‘local’ acts these days, with the Ratbag Record signees arguably having outgrown their smalltown beginnings, but their latest track ‘Summertime’ is too irresistible not to have on this list (and probably on anyone’s summer roadtrip playlist). We were lucky enough to premiere the clip the other day which was everything we’ve come to expect from The Goochies and more.
This Sydney four-piece band have been rolling around with a Hendrix-like swagger for a few months now, and have just released their debut single, ‘Take Control’. Combing chunky riffs, shredding drums and wailing vocals, Velvet Trip are an act that we would definitely recommend you catch live. And the good news is, you can. The band will be launching their single at the Botany View, December 15th – info here.
We stumbled across Ruby Gill’s ‘Your Mum’ by chance the other week, and boy were we glad we did. The Melbourne-based indie-folk artist is one that we are predicting will be a triple j staple by the end of 2019, with her insightful track already amassing thousands of streams on Spotify and loads of 5-star reviews on Unearthed. Stay tuned.
