If you’ve listened to any of Julia Jacklin’s new music, you’d be forgiven for perhaps being a little nervous when it came time to interview/meet her. Throughout Crushing Jacklin demonstrates an intimacy through her directness that makes you feel like you’ve peaked into her diary and witnessed something more akin to streams of consciousness than overly metaphoric “lyricism”.
You’ve heard moments of force and of fragility delivered so precisely it’s hard to imagine someone this artistically endowed could be overly interested in unpacking her thoughts freely, when it’s all there already in such a way that you can’t miss it. Of course, within moments of meeting, you realise you had nothing to worry about.
Above we talk to a relaxed Jacklin about her recent endeavour into producing/directing videos, the themes of Crushing, and funky her pre-show rituals. She’s also about to embark on a huge national tour – info here and dates below – that you won’t want to miss.
