Eight Acts We Predict (And Hope) Will Be Playing Splendour In The Grass 2019
Finger crossed.

Splendour is coming.

The annual pilgrimage to Splendour In The Grass is rapidly approaching and, with organisers recently locking in the North Byron Parklands as a permanent home, the future is looking bright. But who will be performing? Here we’ve constructed a list of acts who all have a little Splendour shaped gap (19th until the 21st of July) in their touring schedules:

Tame Impala

Kevin Parker’s outfit are ticking a lot of SITG boxes right now; they’ve just released a new track, they haven’t played the festival since 2015, and they will be well into tour mode come July. ICYMI, here’s their new tune which dropped Friday – just imagine catching this one on the Amphitheatre Stage.

Travis Scott

You know how the SITG lineup usually is somewhat reflective of the Hottest 100? Well Ocean Alley played Splendour last year which means they’re out, so it’s likely that Travis Scott or local frother Fisher will be there. Gotta say we’d be over the moon if Travis Scott got down here to headline one night!

Ruby Fields

“Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby,” so says The Kaiser Chiefs 2007 hit. Well we’d be happy to see one Ruby (see what I did there) at SITG ‘19, and that’s Sydney’s indie-rocking force of nature Ruby Fields. With her Permanent Hermit EP on its way, it would make perfect sense for her to be there in July and it would be awesome to see her closing out a stage.

Ty Segall

Psych multi-instrumentalist Ty Segall was last in Australia back in 2014 and he’s releasing new music this Friday. That seems like enough evidence to put him into the “maybe” category – he’s been in the “fuck I hope so” category for many years now…

Flume

Having just dropped a ripping new mixtape, globetrotting Aussie producer Flume seems a likely candidate to headline the dance side of the lineup. Last playing SITG back in 2016, this year seems like the perfect time to make a return and get some bodies moving in a big way.

Schoolboy Q

Having stated that his new album is coming very soon, we reckon (and have our finger, toes, and eyes crossed) that this could be happening. Could you imagine seeing this is the Amphitheatre? It would be fucking insane.

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard

Although they’ve put on more festivals than they’ve played in Australia over the past few years, we reckon there’s a good chance Gizz will be there. They last played in 2017, and their new album Fishing for Fishies on its way, so why not?

Childish Gambino

Hear me out. So we know he devastated a lot of fans when he cancelled the Australian leg of his world tour last year due to a foot injury, with no rescheduling of shows, which makes the idea of him coming out for SITG even more exciting. If he’s not busy with one of his other million projects, there’s no reason why we can’t dream of some redemption for Gambino right?
