Known locally for producing tracks for one of Sydney’s most exciting voices in Rebecca Hatch as well as helping mastermind one of the neighbourhood’s favourite hip hop nights ‘1nce Again’, 19 year old producer, DJ and event organiser SOLLYY has just released his debut 7-track tape. Following on from a couple of Instagram-teased flips including Triple One track ‘Jitter’ featuring Raj Mahal and ‘Blueprint’ by HP BOYZ, Asuelu is a new collection of remixes dedicated to a certain reality TV star. The project pays homage to Asuelu Pula’a from 90 Day Fiancè (a real life angel made internet famous by his wholesome on-screen antics), incorporating playful phonetic spellings of remix titles and lighthearted meme content/cover art to round out the project’s concept while complementing its overall bubbly and infectious sound.
On the release, SOLLYY said: “Each remix on the project has a distinct style and sound to it, meant to showcase my versatility across various genres. Everything from New Orleans bounce to experimental hip hop to UK garage.” Jumping back and forth between sounds, SOLLYY also jumps between eras for inspiration, flipping classics from the late 90s and early 2000s like Donnell Jones’ r&b burner ‘Where I Wanna Be’ and Clipse’s ‘Mr Me Too’ featuring Pharrell Williams, right through to more recent club heaters like Travis Scott’s ‘Goosebumps’ featuring Kendrick Lamar. Volume up for this one, you can listen to Asuelu below:
