Now that the dust has settled and the romance capital of the world has gone back to being a regular amount (still a lot) more chic than the rest of the world, we reflect on a few of next season’s sneakers that caught our eye.
One of the rising stars of global fashion, British menswear designer Craig Green has teamed up with adi on a trio of new models. Having featured in Craig Green’s runway show, Superstars, Sambas and an unknown Boost model look set to round out the brands’ second collaboration. Peep that contrast stitching and subtle Craig Green branding on the Superstars and Sambas though.
Following the huge success of Sacai x Nike collaborations in 2019, 2020 looks bright for fans of the statement . Headed up by Chitose Abe, Sacai’s growing popularity is in no small part thanks to her boundary-pushing LDWaffle – of which we are still waiting on at least one more colourway. Tackling a new mash-up silhouette, the Vaporwaffle combines elements of the OG Waffle Trainer and the Nike’s recent PEG Vaporfly SP. Based on what we’ve seen, the sequel to last year’s most hyped hybrid has passed early tests with flying colours.
Pretty much everything Virgil touches turns to gold. Touching a Jordan V for the first time – his previous OW x Jordan collaborations have all reconstructed the 1 – his latest collab comes dressed in a soft grey with transparent ‘windows’ so you can flex your impeccable sock game, and (obviously) an Off-White zip tie + laces. We wouldn’t recommend cutting through the window itself as seen below, but each to their own.
Another collaboration seemingly picking up where they left off last year, this pairing sees luxury streetwear meet classic Californian skate style. Both Era and Old Skool silhouettes catch a makeover, with very different looks. While both sport paisley/ bandana patterns, the Era comes with bright, contrasting suede panels reminiscent of fruit tingles, and the Old Skools in an easy-to-wear neutral canvas.
Matthew M Williams has also been consolidating his relationship with Nike over the last few months, highlighted by the hype around a recent NikeLab apparel collection. Naturally wanting to put his spin on the sneaker of 2019, he’s given the Air Force 1 the ALYX treatment. Coming in four staple offerings, the black and white sneakers feature subtle gold branding on the heel wrap and ALYX’s signature roller coaster buckles.
